The Escuela Hotelera of San Juan

The Escuela Hotelera of San Juan grew and developed as an autonomous institution of the vision and initiative of Ms. Sylvia Cestero León to provide to Puerto Rico a prestigious training center in programs related to catering services. In the beginning was part of the Vocational Lyceum Sylvia Cestero de Toyos, a vocational institution, of high skills technique with more than twenty years of service.

For almost years since its foundation, the Escuela Hotelera of San Juan has impacted significantly the food and beverage industry and the community in general. Proofs of this are the countless activities that promote the presence of graduates in prestigious professional scenarios.

Our Educational Philosophy

The Escuela Hotelera of San Juan considers education as a continuous integral process, which can be done at any stage of the life of the human being. It bases its philosophy in the constructivist movement; philosophical current that seeks, through formal and informal education, that human beings discover and build their knowledge. It is to look for meaning by means of the educational experiences to which human beings are exposed.

This Institution perceives education as an ongoing process that allows students to incorporate their life experiences into learning experiences. This process allows them to reach their goals and develop the satisfaction from their fulfillment.

As this educational philosophy is our north, we seek to incorporate it in every one of the activities of our educational community. Faculty, students, and other staff are made conscious of this environment through orientations, publication displays, and bulletin boards. We want them to be clear, from the very beginning, of our mission, our philosophy, and the goals we aim to fulfill upon completion of our objective.

Our philosophy has a very close relation with the school’s mission. Students who have entered the country’s workforce and have turned into productive citizens and responsible employees evidence the most significant examples. Another significant example of this relation is our participation as an institution in real work scenarios, either through competitions in which our students participate or through internships.
